 Mission Statement

SUMMARY 

Maintain, repair, and install CNP equipment. CNP equipment includes commercial cooking, cleaning and refrigerated equipment throughout the district. Respond to support tickets during and after work hours. Recommend equipment replacement as needed. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctions in café equipment. 

• Install new commercial kitchen equipment and components. 

• Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring. (Both electronic and pneumatic) 

• Fabricate, assemble, and install gas, water and drain piping according to specifications and code. 

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial refrigeration equipment (i.e., walk in and reach in refrigerators and freezers and ice machines and dispensers). 

• Analyze and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material. 

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair gas and electric steamers, mixers, slicers, food processors, convection ovens, dishwashers, garbage disposals, steam line tables, venta-hoods, booster water heaters, etc. 

• Wire and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, and humidity controls according to wiring schematics. 

• Maintain refrigerant dispensing records to meet federal requirements. 

• Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and procedures for all kitchen equipment, including changing of filters and cleaning condensers and coils. 

• Receive and complete work orders. Order/secure parts to make repairs as needed. 

• Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates. 

• Maintain accurate written records on material and labor used. 

• Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. 

• Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean. 

• Work with cafeteria managers and supervisors to complete projects. 

• Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection procedures. 

• Respond to emergency calls as needed. 

 

Safety 

• Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.

• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. 

• Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition. 

• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. 

Equipment Used 

Meters, gages, welding equipment, ladder, hoist, hand and power tools, pipe bender, torches. 

Light truck or van. Vacuum pumps, refrigerant recovery machine, work on a scaffold or power lift up to 30 feet above ground or platform level. 

Additional Responsibilities 

• Performs additional CNP duties or Operational Support duties as assigned 

• Assume the responsibility to deliver meals from the production site to the serving sites in a timely manner by operating a motorized vehicle. 

• Maintain transport equipment and vehicles. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities 

COMPETENCIES 

• Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques 

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions 

• Ability to perform mathematical calculations 

• Ability to diagnose and resolve problems and work independently 

• Ability to use hand and power tools 

• Proficient in the use of all commonly used commercial food service trouble shooting meters and tools 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

• High school diploma or GED 

• Valid Texas driver’s license 

• EPA and/or HVAC Certification 

• Minimum three years’ experience in commercial or school food service equipment field 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

• Ability to read, write and communicate fluently in English 

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals 

• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, students, and parents as required 

• Bilingual (Spanish) a plus 

 

COMPUTER SKILLS 

• Proficient in Microsoft Office application (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook). 

• Proficient in using email and electronic communication 

• Ability to learn and use other software as necessary 

• Ability to use basic office equipment

• Child Nutrition workers are regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods of time 

• Required to reach, balance, stoop, kneel, twist and bend 

• Employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds 

• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts 

• Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat 

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level is low to high and may have frequent interruptions. There may be activity from other employees and students of a distracting nature. 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable. Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.
